STOUGHTON – Edward C. Lawry passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022. He was born in the Township of Oregon, Wis., on Dec. 15, 1935, the son of Edwin and Alice (Olsen).
A 1953 graduate of Oregon High School, Ed graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1957 with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. He was married to Janice Schwenn in Oregon, in 1955. He was employed by the Square D Company from 1957 to 1961, working in Milwaukee and Schiller Park, Illinois. Ed returned to Madison in 1961 to begin a 31-year career with the State of Wisconsin Industrial Commission and later, the Department of Industry, Labor, and Human Relations. He became very active in the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) on the local, regional, and national levels, having been a member since 1961. He received the IAEI Presidential Medal of Honor in 1992 and is a national honorary member.
Ed served as a member and President of the Oregon School Board. He was a life member of the Madison Elks Club and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oregon. He enjoyed bowling, golf, traveling, and following Wisconsin sports teams, especially the Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers.
Ed is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janice; two daughters, Sandra (Steve) Lieske, Boise, Idaho, and Lynn (Daniel) Finley, Sun Prairie; three grandchildren, Shannon (James) Niehoff and Devin and Colleen Finley; step-grandsons, Tim and Michael Lieske; a sister, Joyce (Merwyn) Bauer; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Erwin and Roger; and sister, Eunice Lythjohan.
